Singing belongs to Christmas like tawny port cries out for a sweet, nutty cheddar, so naturally all of my choices are vocal. I adore Christmas-time, and especially the Carols from King’s BBC broadcast which always introduces new compositions and stunning arrangements of traditional carols. I breathe a sigh of relief though when I hear Sir David Willcocks’ descant to Hark the Herald Angels Sing, as his is the best. Britten’s Ceremony of Carols is my favourite of all Christmas music and there is no better recording than that by The Sixteen. My final playlist choice is divinely silly and should be danced to with a glass of bubbly, goodies made by my wonderful chef sister, and lots of children, on Christmas morning.Continue reading...

Opera lovers used to have a reason to panic if they were running even a minute late to a performance at La Scala. But now the famous Milan opera house is easing up on its strict rules about punctuality, reflecting concern that late patrons are getting increasingly aggressive when they are forbidden by ushers from entering the theatre.
Performances will now begin five minutes after they are scheduled to start, which will allow opera fans a few more crucial seconds to take their seats.Continue reading...
