I am trying to understand music, so am no doubt hearing inaccurately much of the time. However, perhaps others might have some pointers for me. One thing I think I am hearing in some music is something that might be called "emotional counterpoint". It's not that the pattern of the notes is in a traditional counterpoint, but rather that the emotion of one part of the music is simultaneously in some way opposite the emotion of another part of the music. Then, the two different emotions seem to give birth to a third that involves aspects of both.
Is that anything which is actually going on, or is it just my imagination running away with me? Jim
