When you speak of Gershwin, don't forget that there were two geniuses. Ira was every much a part of the Gershwin pair as George. In fact, when the songs were written, George often came up with the music first and Ira had to craft the words to the melody and rhythm lines -- backwards from how, say, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Gilbert & Sullivan did it.

THANK YOU SIR! Absolutely have LOVED your tribute to Gershwin this week. LOVED hearing Oscar Levant; Blossom Dearie the other evening. How wonderful that when there are words to their songs we can understand every single one! Our Love Is Here to Stay was one of our favorite songs. My husband died in 2008 and though the song brought tears to my eyes the other evening, also wonderful, incredible memories. Your voice is the last I hear before I to sleep.
