2010 International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition
Join Lisa Flynn and David Polk in mid-October as they travel to Warsaw, Poland to cover the piano competition that helped launch the careers of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Garrick Ohlsson, Mitsuko Uchida, Yundi Li, and many other pianists. We'll present concerts, live broadcasts, features, interviews, and more; latest details will be announced on the blog below.
Broadcast Schedule
Tuesday, October 5, 4PM: Martha Argerich, 1965 winner of the competition, and Nelson Freire open the competition with a celebratory concert (taped on October 2). Hosted by George Preston.
Monday, October 18 through Friday, October 22: Daily reports from Warsaw on the competition finals, audio postcards from Chopin sites in Poland and more (live and posted below).
Thursday, October 21, 12:30PM: Live from Warsaw, the 16th Prizewinners’ Concert from the Grand Theatre in the Polish National Opera, Moniuszko Auditorium.
TBD: Highlights from the final round of the competition with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Anton Wit conducting (if no first prize winner is declared, finalists will perform on October 21). All reports and an updated broadcast schedule will be posted on wfmt.com/chopin.
