Immersion Day: Great Opera Singers
of the 20th Century with Henry Fogel
Experience the all-day seminar which was held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 featuring audio recordings by the greatest singers in history, pictures, DVDs and more.
Recorded at the WTTW studios, the day featured a lecture, discussion, and great music. The seminar was conducted by Henry Fogel, one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of Great Opera Singers. Henry is the former president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the League of American Orchestras and is currently dean of the Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.
Henry takes us through a journey of great recordings of opera singers from the past century. Discover more about Luisa Tetrazzini, Rosa Ponselle, Mario Del Monaco, and Feodor Chaliapin and what made them great. Learn about their personal experiences with Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, and Verdi. Mr. Fogel also shares with us how opera singing has changed over the past hundred years.
The cost is $20 for the general public and $15 for WFMT's Fine Arts Circle members. Everyone who subscribes will have on-demand access until February, 2013.
