Live! at the Concertgebouw
October 2007 marked the beginning of a new era for Radio Netherlands' classical
music concert series Live! at the Concertgebouw. After more than 21 years of
radio broadcasts, Live! at the Concertgebouw expanded to year-round programming
with 52, two-hour weekly episodes. Hans Haffmans continues to host this weekly series
and since 2007, he has been joined on the air by a select group of musicians and radio
personalities. These co-hosts have their roots in the US and in the Netherlands and
together with Hans discuss performances, interview artists and reflect on Holland's
exciting and diverse classical music world.
Each program has an individual theme, adding enrichment and surprise to the
week's concert. Interviews with artists and commentators are interwoven with
the performances, giving audiences a richer and more informative Live! at the
Concertgebouw series.
What remains the same in Live! at the Concertgebouw are the phenomenal
performances recorded at Amsterdam's concert hall known round the world for
its exceptional acoustics. The 2009-2010 series includes performances by the Royal
Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Netherlands Radio
Philharmonic Orchestra. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra based in Amsterdam
has been voted the best in the world by Gramophone music magazine.
