My Music

Not many radio programs run for forty consecutive seasons and remain fundamentally unchanged in their format. Proof, if any were needed, that when in 1966 the late Edward J. Mason and Tony Shryane devised program number one, they knew exactly what they were doing and they did it exactly right. Equal honors are due, of course, to the chairman and his team, for it is their enthusiasm, knowledge (sometimes the lack of it!), and sense of fun that have kept the programs alive and healthy.

When Frank Muir and John Amis compete against Ian Wallace and Denis Norden in answering questions based on music (opera, jazz, lite classical, dance, and even birdsong), it is not just a battle of wits — and of wit. They have encyclopedias for brains. They enjoy themselves and each other's company. Their mood is infectious, and the studio audience catches it right from the word go. They are among that rare and vanquishing breed of minds and spirits in England, who as one observer noted, "...have been everywhere, know everyone, and heard everything." Their anecdotes are vivid and spontaneous, their personalities charming and compelling.

A variety of time slots have been successful for these witty and erudite broadcast gems. Many stations have found them great fill programs during the day or late in the evening. The most popular times for scheduling them have been weekends. Both My Word! and My Music has been extraordinarily popular with listeners, drawing enthusiastic comments and response during pledge drives.

Some stations pair the two series: others broadcast separately. These programs are available for a minimal fee.

Photographs are available upon request for both series.  For more information, please contact Tony Macaluso at (773) 279-2114, email: tmacaluso@wfmt.com or Carol Martinez at (773) 279-2112, email: cmartinez@wfmt.com.
