WFMT Remembers Luciano Pavarotti:  1935-2007

The WFMT Radio Network is proud to present a unique two-part profile of the life and career of the great tenor Luciano Pavarotti, to celebrate Signor Pavarotti's 70th birthday on October 12th of this year.  Pavarotti - The Legend at 70 will be two hours in length.

A 70th birthday tribute to the legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti, featuring a new, rare and exclusive in-depth interview with Signor Pavarotti, recollections and observations of his performances from distinguished international musicians, music executives, and recordings spanning his career.

Exclusively for this program, Luciano Pavarotti speaks with host/producer Jon Tolansky at his home in Italy, recalling his legendary life and career.  Amongst a wide range of topics covered are many of Signor Pavarotti's greatest achievements on the operatic stage - the roles featured include Tonio (La Fille du Regiment), the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), King Gustavus (Un ballo in maschera), Canio (Pagliacci), Manrico (Il trovatore) Rodolfo (La Boheme), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Calaf (Turandot).  The program also includes Signor Pavarotti singing concert repertoire including Verdi's Requiem Mass, items from The Three Tenors concerts, and Italian songs.

Luciano Pavarotti has been a favorite artist of some of the greatest and most important conductors in history, and this feature will include coverage of his performances with Herbert von Karajan, Carlos Kleiber and Sir Georg Solti, amongst others.

Additionally, commenting on Luciano Pavarotti's artistic and vocal qualities in Pavarotti - The Legend at 70, are many distinguished performers and executives who have known and worked with him over a period of four decades.

Luciano Pavarotti's singing career is represented in this biographical profile by recordings from 1964 to the present time. Other important aspects of his life are covered, including his love of football and cuisine and his extensive work for charity, including the Pavarotti Music Center in Mostar.
