98.7WFMT and Chicago Symphony Orchestra Announce New Radio Series
The CSO Soloists Presented by National City to debut live from WFMT's Studios on Sunday, October 22 from 3:00-4:00 pm
Chicago, IL 98.7WFMT, Chicago's Classical Experience, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra are proud to announce the creation of a new radio series: The CSO Soloists Presented by National City. Featuring performers from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in an intimate recital setting, this 6-part series will be broadcast live from WFMT's own Fay and Daniel Levin Performance Studio. Each of the one-hour recitals will be performed in front of a studio audience.
"Bringing live music performance to our audience has always been a hallmark of 98.7WFMT's programming," says Steve Robinson, Senior Vice President and General Manager. "Our long-standing relationship with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra has allowed WFMT and the WFMT Radio Network to share the riches of Chicago with the nation and world for many, many years. Now, with the support of The Private Group at National City, WFMT will be able to share a new, unique and intimate experience with listeners as we present this new series of CSO soloists in recital, live from our studios. I want to thank everyone at the CSO for their ongoing partnership. I also want to thank The Private Group at National City for making this series possible. Together, we can bring the Chicago Symphony Orchestra experience to the largest possible audience."
This original performance series debuts on Sunday, October 22 from 3:00-4:00 pm with Lei Hou, violin and Catherine Brubaker, viola. The program will include: W. A. Mozart's Violin and Viola Duo #2 in B- Flat Major, K 424 and Bohuslav Martinu's Three Madrigals for Violin and Viola.
Lei Hou joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1997. Active as a soloist and chamber musician, Ms. Hou recently performed in a chamber music concert with Pinchas Zukerman at the Ravinia Music Festival, and a string quartet concert tour in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy with fellow CSO members. She earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in violin performance from the Peabody Conservatory. Ms. Hou is a native of Dalian, China.
A member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1989, Catherine Brubaker is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where she was a student of William Lincer. Ms. Brubaker is a former member of the Dallas and Seattle symphony orchestras and has served on the music faculty at Northwestern University, teaching orchestral repertoire for viola. An avid performer of chamber music, she appears annually on the CSO Chamber Music Series and has been heard on WFMT's Dame Myra Hess concert series. Raised in Arizona, Ms. Brubaker lives in Evanston.

"The CSO is delighted to collaborate with 98.7WFMT and National City on this unique new recital series, an opportunity to showcase the talents and musical personalities of individual members of our great Orchestra," said Deborah R. Card, President of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association. "The CSO as a whole is known internationally for its world-class musicians, the extraordinary quality of the ensemble as a whole, its musicality, and a deep commitment to artistic excellence. The Orchestra's overall strength as a team can only be attributed to the exceptional musical gifts that each and every player possesses and contributes to the ensemble. Drawing upon this incredible pool of talent, it will be wonderful to invite our musicians to step into the spotlight as soloists, sharing their own musical perspectives and programming with listeners."
The series is underwritten by The Private Group at National City.
"National City has always been committed to the arts, and pledging our support to WFMT and a cultural icon like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is something we're proud to do. Sponsoring the CSO Soloists series gives us a chance to help showcase these outstanding musicians and the CSO to a broader audience in a unique setting," said David W. Dunning, Executive Vice President and Senior Managing Director. "The Private Client Group at National City has also agreed to contribute $5,000 or more to WFMT or the CSO in the name of any new client who establishes a $1 million dollar trust or investment management relationship with us, as a result of our involvement with WFMT or the CSO."
