Live opening-night broadcast of Lyric Opera of Chicago's Salome begins at 7:00 pm, Saturday, October 21, on 98.7WFMT

Starring Deborah Voigt in the title role, with Kim Begley/Herod, Alan Held/Jochanaan, Judith Forst/Herodias, Joseph Kaiser/Narraboth & conducted by Sir Andrew Davis, music director.

Live broadcasts of Lyric Opera of Chicago opening-night performances on 98.7WFMT, Chicago's classical experience, will resume on Saturday, October 21, at 7:00 pm with the new production of Richard Strauss's Salome, Lyric's general director William Mason has announced.

The broadcast, hosted by Norman Pellegrini, Lisa Flynn, and Lois Baum, will start with 30 minutes of live commentary and taped interviews with soprano Deborah Voigt and stage director Francesca Zambello beginning at 7:00 p.m. The live performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Following the 100-minute performance of Salome there will be additional special programming relating to the opening-night broadcast.

The Oct. 21 live broadcast of Salome stars soprano Deborah Voigt in the title role. Lyric's music director Sir Andrew Davis conducts the new production staged by Francesca Zambello. The one-act opera also features tenor Kim Begley/Herod, bass-baritone Alan Held/Jochanaan, mezzo-soprano Judith Forst/Herodias, and tenor Joseph Kaiser/Narraboth. The opera is 100 minutes long and is performed without intermission.

Lyric has signed media-rights agreements with the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). These agreements allow the internationally renowned opera company to return to WFMT for live Chicago-area opening-night broadcasts during the 2006-07 season and to rebroadcast the entire season nationally in the spring of 2007 on the WFMT Radio Network.
