District 219’s arts education program both on air and
online Thursday, May 3rd during the 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm

The Chicago-area district was recently recognized for
having the top arts education program in the United States
by the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
“This is great news for the Chicago-area arts and music
community,” said 98.7WFMT Program Director Peter Whorf,
“and we think it’s important to report on achievements
by all of our region’s cultural institutions
including the schools.”
Producers were sent to Niles North High School to
interview both teachers and students about being singled
out for the 19th annual Kennedy Center Alliance for
Arts Education Network (KCAAEN) and National School
Boards Association (NSBA) award, which was announced on
April 17th, 2007 at the National School Boards
Association’s annual conference in San Francisco.
According to the awards committee, the district
demonstrates a strong commitment to the arts in
each of four areas: Music, theatre, dance, and visual art.
The committee also considered how the district
collaborates with other community organizations.
