For most people, Poland is associated with the music of Frederic Chopin. Yet the depth and richness of Polish music extends far beyond the confines of Chopin’s pieces. This week, explore nearly 1,000 years of Polish music with anecdotes about its history and cultural shifts. From ancient Gregorian chants to 20th century avant-garde, romantic to minimalist, discover the composers living in this small, but mighty, European country. Composers highlighted this week include Renaissance composer Mikołaj Gomółka, 19th century pianist Maria Szymanowska, composer and Prime Minister Ignacy Paderewski and of course, Frédéric Chopin.
