As early as the 17th century, music has played an important role in the Dutch Navy. Transforming from ships’ bands and ensembles into a land-based full-sized orchestra, the Marine Band became a musical ambassador for the Royal Netherlands Navy. From military marching formation, intimate accompanying ensemble, extended big band and classic symphonic wind band to a stunning cover band, no music style is absent from the group’s enormous repertoire. On their new album, the group plays a wide range of works by Russian composers: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Sergei Prokofiev, Igor Stravinsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, and others.
