Coupling sonatas by Weber and Schubert, pianist Paul Lewis paints a unique and highly elegant portrait of two musical dramatists who were emblematic figures of Austro-German Romanticism. While both composers died tragically of illness in their 30’s, they were healthy when they wrote these works – and were just beginning to taste success. Lewis’s performances highlight the beauty and craftsmanship that brought fame to these young composers, however briefly.
