Rachmaninoff’s output of chamber music was small, but all the more precious for that reason. Piano Trios Nos. 1 and 2 are absolute gems that bear witness to this conclusion. Although the products of a young composer still indisputably under the influence of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff’s personality is already fully present – reaching soaring heights of emotion and expressiveness.
