The Tallis Scholars were founded in 1973 by their director, Peter Phillips. Through recordings and more than two thousand concerts, they have established themselves throughout the world as leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music. This is the penultimate recording in the ensemble’s project to record all of Josquin des Prez’s masses before the composer’s 500th anniversary in 2021. It features one of Josquin’s most forthright and daring compositions, Missa Mater Patris, which is paired with a mass that has recently been shown to be written by the little-known Noel Bauldeweyn.
