Mikis Theodorakis passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday September 2, 2021
He composed music for the films , Zorba The Greek starring Anthony Quinn (1964), and Serpico (1973) for which he is most well-known in the US, but his musical legacy is much more than soundtracks. Educated at the Paris Conservatory under Olivier Messiaen, Theodorakis created song cycles, music for the stage, operas, ballets, chamber works, oratorios, piano concertos and several symphonies.
Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips focuses on two popular works of this great composer and political figure.
We’ll also pay tribute to another iconic filmscore legend who passed away in 2020, Italian composer Ennio Morricone.
Our Special Guest Host this week is Kristina Lynn.
