Acclaimed composer, musician, and professor Elbio Barilari is your guide on this adventure through a rich musical landscape. Enjoy and learn about the lively, compelling, and seldom-heard treasures of Latin American and Spanish classical music from around the world.

Two Major Works from Brazil and Argentina
In this program, Fiesta’s showcases two monumental pieces from the Latin American repertoire, a piano quintet by Argentine composer Constantino Gaito and a full scale post-romantic piano concerto by Brazilian composer Francisco Mignone.
Mexican Composer Gutiérrez Heras
Born in Tehuacan, Mexico in 1927, Joaquín Gutiérrez Heras studied with some of the great composers of his time such as Blas Galindo and Rodolfo Halffter in Mexico and Olivier Messiaen and Georges Dandelot in France. We will share his monumental work 8 Pieces, Op. 1, featuring cellist Carlos Prieto.
Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque Spanish Music
Fiesta features a treasure of Spanish music from the 12th to the 18th century including the mysterious “Codex Calixtinus”.
New Tango Music
Since the 1920’s classical composers from Argentina and Uruguay drew inspiration from tango music, an urban genre developed in the twin cities across Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires and Montevideo. On this Fiesta, we will hear tango-inspired pieces by four Argentine living composers.
