Anton Bruckner (1824-1896)
Honoring the composer on the 200th anniversary year of his birth. He spent years as a chorister and later he served as the cathedral organist in Linz, where he established a reputation for his improvisatory skills. Bruckner worked during a period of changing musical tastes and styles, and while his music was indebted to the traditions of Schubert and Beethoven, he was increasingly drawn to the “new” music of Wagner and Liszt.
