On Saturday’s broadcast, we featured the Lockport Township High School Wind Symphony, another wind ensemble selected by the judges of the 2014 Chicagoland Band Festival at John Hersey High School to appear on Introductions. The ensemble is directed by Brian Covey.

In recent years, the Lockport Wind Symphony has earned consistent Superior Division Ratings at state organization contests and has performed at both the National Association for Music Education and Illinois Music Education Conferences. The ensemble has toured multiple recognized world-class concert halls, has been consistently selected to the University of Illinois Superstate Band Festival (three times as the Honor Band), and has made five appearances at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival. In 2008, the Lockport Band Program was awarded the prestigious Sudler Flag from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, recognizing high school band programs that have demonstrated particularly significant high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years.

Additionally, the Wind Symphony and Lockport Band Program were inaugural recipients of the National Band Association Blue Ribbon of Excellence National Winner and three time National Wind of the Mark of Excellence recipients. The Wind Symphony has been featured twice at The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago.
