On Saturday’s live broadcast, we feature 12 year old pianist Yerin Yang. Yering attends South Middle School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She started piano at age five and currently studies with Brenda Huang. Most recently, Yerin passed the preliminary rounds for the Cleveland International Piano Competition (Junior Division) and competed among 12 other contestants. She has also won awards in numerous competitions, including First Prize in both the Sejong Music Competition and the Chinese Fine Arts Society Competition for three years in a row. In November 2014, Yerin was awarded State Alternate in the Junior Division of the MTNA competition. Other awards include first place in the Los Angeles Young Musician International Competition (2013). As the winner of the 2013 DePaul Concerto Festival, she performed with the Oistrach Symphony Orchestra and appeared on WFMT’s Introductions. She performed at Music in the Loft’s Young Artists Concert in March 2014 and for the Young Piano Prodigies at the Harold Washington Library in 2012. In September 2014, Yerin played a solo concert at PianoForte.
