LIVE: Beatrice Chen, 13, viola

On Saturday’s live broadcast, we feature 13 year old violinist Beatrice Chen. Beatrice Chen is a home schooled freshman, and she studies viola with Paul Neubauer. Beatrice made her concerto debut at age 11 with the Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra at the Winner’s Concert of the 12th DePaul Concerto Festival. Since then, she won first prize of the 2015 and 2016 American Protégé International Concerto Competition. As a result, she performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Beatrice also won first prize in the Senior Viola Division of the 2016 Society of American Musicians Competition. She appeared as a soloist with the Chicago Youth Symphony Concert Orchestra as a result of winning the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s 2015 Concerto Competition. Beatrice is currently principal violist of the CYSO Symphony Orchestra, and she is also a member of the New World String Quartet. Most recently, Beatrice attended the 2016 Aspen Music Festival, where she studied with Victoria Chiang and Heidi Castleman.
