The Brabant Ensemble has built an international reputation for high-quality performance of 16th-century masterpieces, with a particular emphasis on lesser-known composers. Founded in 1998, the Ensemble has recorded for Hyperion since 2006; three of these recordings have been shortlisted for the Gramophone Awards. Jacob Obrecht’s name may now be less familiar than those of some of his Flemish contemporaries, yet in his lifetime he was considered second only to Josquin des Prez.
