On Saturday's broadcast, we welcome back Mariachi Herencia de México to Introductions. The ensemble, made up of pre-college musicians from Chicago, gave their radio premiere on Introductions in 2017 and shared selections from their debut album, Nuestra Herencia (Our Heritage). The album received a Latin GRAMMY nomination and national attention. Mariachi Herencia de México shares tracks from their second album, Herencia De La Tierra Mía (The Heritage of My Land). The album features internationally renowned singers Lila Downs and Aida Cuevas. Since the majority of the students are classically trained musicians, the album also features a classical selection, "Rondinela." The album hit #2 on the Latin Billboard chart. The ensemble appears at the Chicago Mariachi Festival on Sunday, June 24 in Millennium Park and at the Chicago World Music Festival on Saturday, September 15.
