This album brings together artists from many different backgrounds to present the symphonic music of George Gershwin in unprecedented sonic scope. Jazz pianist Shelly Berg, conductor José Serebrier, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are joined by a group of guest artists (Monica Mancini, Arturo Sandoval, Ledisi, and Mark O’Connor) for a fresh take on familiar works by Gershwin. Notable is the choice to record and mix the album incorporating techniques used more in contemporary orchestral film scoring. The results reveal musical details inside Gershwin’s orchestrations not heard in traditional recordings.
