Joseph Shabalala founded Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 1974. Paul Simon invited the South African vocal ensemble to perform on his 1986 album Graceland, and since that time they have toured the world non-stop, recording more than 30 albums.

In this 1992 Studs Terkel program, members of the group tell their story and sing their glorious, characteristic harmonies.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo group is back in Chicago throughout the month of December to perform in Lindiwe at the Steppenwolf Theater Company.
