Bernard Haitink began his tenure as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s first principal conductor with performances of Mahler’s Third Symphony in October 2006, featuring American mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung, women of the Chicago Symphony Chorus (prepared by Duain Wolfe), and the Chicago Children’s Choir (prepared by Josephine Lee). Released in 2007, the recording was the inaugural release on the Orchestra’s new in-house label, CSO Resound.
