Riccardo Muti leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in music from and about Italy in this retrospective program. Gustave Charpentier’s Impressions of Italy opens the program, followed by a suite from the film score to the 1963 period drama Il Gattopardo (The Leopard) by Nino Rota, a mentor to Riccardo Muti. To conclude, the Chicago Symphony Chorus is showcased—including two a cappella sections, Ave Maria and Laudi alla Vergine Maria—in Verdi’s Four Sacred Pieces.
