Guest conductor Erich Leinsdorf begins this composite program of French music with Debussy’s La mer. Celebrating its tenth anniversary in the spring of 1968, the Chicago Symphony Chorus performed Fauré’s Requiem with soprano Agnes Giebel and baritone Gérard Souzay, all under the baton of seventh music director Jean Martinon. Music by Ravel under three former music directors completes the program with Le Tombeau de Couperin with Rafael Kubelík, the second suite from Daphnis and Chloe under Sir Georg Solti, and La valse with Fritz Reiner.
