It has become the time of evening for Studs Terkel’s 1962 conversation with Eleanor Steber. The innovative American soprano spoke about commissioning Samuel Barber’s Knoxville, Summer of 1915, and described meeting James Agee, whose novel and prose-poem, A Death in the Family, provided the text for Barber’s evocative masterpiece.
