Jaime Laredo, a man of great warmth, intelligence, with a sense of humanity is celebrating his 80th year! Bill and the Exploring Music team visited Jaime and cellist Sharon Robinson, at their home in Vermont. This week features their Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, and Jaime at the Marlboro Festival and also in piano quartets with Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, and Emanuel Ax. We will hear him solo with and conduct great orchestras. We will enjoy listening to Kreisler encore pieces that were his sister’s favorites. Born in Bolivia, Jaime was brought to San Francisco as a boy and had his debut with the San Francisco Symphony. At 17, he launched his career by winning the Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition – Bolivia was so thrilled that it honored him with a postage stamp and by naming a stadium after him. This week is what Exploring Music is about!
