Monday, May 2 — Oriana Singers

The Oriana Singers have been stretching artistic boundaries since first coming together in 1979. Led by noted conductor William Chin, they have toured the Chicago area, nationally, and abroad, experimenting with the chemistry of Renaissance songs and contemporary vocal jazz for audiences and singers.

Equally at home in front of a harpsichord, organ, piano, or fortepiano, David Schrader is a performer of wide-ranging interests and accomplishments. Over two volumes, Schrader presented a survey of Antonio Soler’s imaginative harpsichord sonatas, works that sparkle with freshness and immediacy.

Wednesday, May 4 —Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert: Matthew Cohen and Zhenni Li-Cohen

American violist Matthew Cohen is a dynamic and versatile artist who is the recipient of numerous accolades and prizes, including the 2018 Center for Musical Excellence International Performing Arts Grant. Pianist Zhenni Li-Cohen’s passionate performances have brought audiences to their feet around the world. She has been hailed for her “big, gorgeous tone and a mesmerizing touch” by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Friday, May 6 Impromptu Encore: Stephane Wrembel

Born in Paris, home of Impressionism and Django Reinhardt, guitarist Stephane Wrembel is one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music. In this Impromptu from February 2020, he performed his composition Bistro Fada, a Django-influenced swinging waltz, evoking the spirit of the night in the City of Light.
