Monday, June 6 — Blue Violet Duo

Blue Violet Duo “excels at both extremes, from the nuanced and restrained to the incandescent and extravagant” (Stringendo magazine). Formed in 2013, the Chicago-based duo (violinist Kate Carter, pianist Louise Chan) was born of a friendship and musical kinship and enjoyed immediate recognition, winning a competition that led to their performance in Carnegie’s Weill Hall in New York in 2014.

Hailed as “remarkable” by the Chicago Tribune, flutist Jessica Warren has concertized on three continents. The Avalon Quartet, described by the Chicago Tribune as “an ensemble that invites you — ears, mind, and spirit — into its music,” is quartet-in-residence at Northern Illinois University.

Wednesday, June 8 —Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert: Beomjae Kim and Joanne Chew-Ann Chang

The New York Times has praised flutist Beomjae Kim’s playing for his “memorable eloquence.” He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey. Acclaimed for her captivating and poetic musical interpretations, Malaysian pianist Joanne Chew-Ann Chang has performed and taught internationally in Asia, North America, and Europe.

Friday, June 10 Impromptu Encore: Midsummer’s Music
