Giulini Conducts Mozart & Mahler

Carlo Maria Giulini served as the CSO’s first principal guest conductor from 1969 until 1972, and he begins with Rossini’s Overture to L’italiana in Algeri. The broadcast continues with Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Horn — featuring principal players Ray Still, Clark Brody, Willard Elliot, and Dale Clevenger — and Prokofiev’s First Symphony. Rounding out the program, Giulini conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 from a Grammy-winning EMI recording.
