Simone Lamsma is the soloist in a performance of Britten’s Violin Concerto. Opening with a tone of lament and glittering with pyrotechnic sparkle in the following movements, the work was premiered by the New York Philharmonic in 1940 under John Barbirolli and subsequently revised by the composer. Also on the program is the monumental Symphony No. 7 by Shostakovich. Music Director Jaap van Zweden conducts, and Alec Baldwin is your host on The New York Philharmonic This Week.
