Today on Introductions, Ethan Zheng of Lake Zurich, a piano student of Marta Aznavoorian. His recital features the music of Johannes Brahms, Frédéric Chopin, Chen Yi, and Sergei Prokofiev.
Ethan Zheng, 16, is a junior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. He is a Scholarship Fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy. He started playing the piano at the age of 5 and has won numerous top prizes in competitions, including the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, U.S. New Star Piano Competition, United States International Music Competition, Young Baroque Artists Competition in Champaign-Urbana and Sejong Music Competition. Ethan has taken masterclasses with Ning An, Michael Brown, Stephen Pierce and Frank Wiens.
Aside from playing the piano, Ethan is also a passionate clarinet player, and is a member of Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras’ top orchestra. He has also been selected as a clarinetist of the ILMEA All-State Honors Band in 2022 as well as All-State Honors Orchestra in 2023. Ethan is an active keyboardist of his school’s Baroque Ensemble and Jazz Combo. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and chess.
