Alan Gilbert conducts works by Ravel, Nielsen, and Tchaikovsky. The program opens with Ravel’s shimmering orchestration of his own piano work, Noble and Sentimental Waltzes. As part of the Orchestra’s celebration of Carl Nielsen’s 150th birthday, Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill made his NY Phil debut as soloist in the Danish composer’s Clarinet Concerto. Finally, we hear a suite from the ballet Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky.
