Old meets new in this program where works by Grisey and Lindberg are framed by more familiar fare by Beethoven and Mozart. The Leonore Overture No. 3 gets things started. We then hear Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan as soloist in Four Songs for Crossing the Threshold by Gérard Grisey. Magnus Lindberg’s Souvenir (in Memoriam of Gérard Grisey) follows (a musical homage to his former teacher), and we conclude with one of the last three symphonies by Mozart: No. 40 in G minor. Alan Gilbert conducts and your host is Alec Baldwin.
