Two male violinists perform from music on music stands
Violinists Johannes Pramsohler and Roldán Bernabé

Composers and violinists Jean-Marie Leclair, Giovanni Pietro Ghignone, and Louis-Gabriel Guillemain dominated the court of Louis XV in Paris. One was murdered, another committed suicide, and the third was considered a mendacious schemer. On this week’s edition of Baroque&Before, Baroque violinists Johannes Pramsohler and Roldán Bernabé, both of the Paris Ensemble Diderot, look for clues to the inner and outer conflicts in the music of the three aforementioned eighteenth-century virtuosos.

Tonight’s program was recorded live in concert October 13, 2022 in Herne’s Künstlerzeche Unser Fritz 2/3, a former colliery, as part of the Herne, Germany Early Music Festival. Thanks to WFMT’s association with the European Broadcasting Union, we’re able to bring you tonight’s program as a stream for thirty days following the broadcast. A blue “Listen button will appear when the stream is accessible.
