This musical hour with John Prine (1946-2020) dates back to the early 1970s, shortly after the acclaimed songwriter first burst onto the Chicago folk scene. Studs Terkel invited him to WFMT shortly before the release of his very first album. Prine spoke of his time as a mailman in his hometown of Maywood, coal mining, and music. He also played his Martin guitar while performing “Paradise,” “Hello in There,” “Angel From Montgomery,” and more.
John Prine died April 7, 2020, and we fondly remember him with this archive rebroadcast on the Best of Studs Terkel.
