Recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Ella Jenkins is known all over the world as the First Lady of Children’s Music. For more than six-decades, she toured schools, festivals, and concert venues, sharing songs and instruments with young people of all ages. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 6, 1924, and so tonight, to borrow from one of her songs, “You’ll Sing a Song and I’ll Sing a Song” celebrating Ella Jenkins on her centenary. Studs Terkel welcomed his friend to WFMT for a musical hour in July 1993.
