The staged production of Raphaël Pichon’s concept for Mozart’s Requiem with director Romeo Castellucci premiered at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, 2019. After several dates across Europe, a concert version premiered at the 2023 BBC Proms; The Times headline exclaimed, “Mozart’s Requiem is reborn at the Proms” continuing with “It’s not often a performance of Mozart’s Requiem comes along that makes it sound entirely fresh, but Raphaël Pichon and his ensemble Pygmalion did just that in their Prom. This was an evening to remember.”

Celebrated for his creative programming, Pichon makes an evening-length program with the addition of plainchant sung by a treble soloist, and rare sacred works (choral and solo) by Mozart. Pichon’s reconstruction of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s opera Samson will be heard on the WFMT Opera Series this month. This release is also notable for the soprano soloist Ying Fang, a celebrated Mozartean who has yet to have her Mozart interpretations preserved on record.
