Today we feature young violinist Katherine Schaufenbuel, a student of Grigory Kalinovsky of Indiana University. She plays Telemann, Mozart, Brahms, Wieniawski and Auerbach with pianist Lyudmila Lakisova.
Katherine Schaufenbuel is a 13-year-old violinist from Naperville, Illinois. She studies with Professor Grigory Kalinovsky of the Indiana University Jacobs Music School.
Katherine has been a member of Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras for six years, currently as Co-Principal of its flagship Symphony Orchestra. She also performs with the Young Naperville Singers. In the past few years she has attended music programs such as the Heifetz International Music Institute. She has also collaborated with and taken masterclasses from many prominent musicians, including Sergey Malov, Robert McDuffie, Vadim Gluzman, Francesca de Pasquale, Rebecca Henry, Renée-Paule Gauthier, and more.
Katherine is an eighth grader at Kennedy Junior High School in Lisle. Outside of music, she enjoys ping pong and golfing and likes to build model cars. Katherine plays on a 1676 Francesco Rugeri violin generously loaned by Kenneth Warren and Son, Ltd.
