The Windsbacher Boys’ Choir is considered one of the best ensembles of its kind. Since its founding in 1946, it has stood for the synthesis of musicality, versatility, precision and purity of sound. Ludwig Böhme has been the new artistic director of the Windsbacher since 2022. The new Christmas album, for which they joined forces with the Berlin-based period instrument ensemble Lautten Compagney BERLIN, is the first recording under his direction. The album features popular German carols, some carols translated into German, the Argentinian carol “La Pereginación” by Ariel Ramirez, the Canadian traditional “Huron Carol,” and a “Gloria” from a mass by Robert Volkmann (1815-1883). Lautten Compagney can be heard alone on two tracks that offer their trademark approach: an arrangement of The Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood” combined with “Greensleeves” and Praetorius’s chorale setting “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern” with a postlude Ciaconna by the Italian composer Andrea Falconieri (1585–1656).
