In 1951, a young couple named Rita and Bernie Jacobs bought a small Chicago radio station where they could broadcast the classical and fine arts programming they loved. Studs Terkel joined them within the year and stayed for almost half a century. When Rita died, in June 1990 at the age of 62, Studs presented this hour of her favorite music, and a glimpse into the sounds and spirit of WFMT’s early years.
