On this Fourth of July, the Best of Studs Terkel presents an historical WFMT program featuring a unique group of American musicians. Originating on the U.S. coastal island of St. Simons, Georgia, the Georgia Sea Island Singers are an African American ensemble that travels the world to share the songs, stories, dances, games, and language of their Gullah heritage. In July 1965, Studs Terkel welcomed John Davis, Peter Davis, Mabel Hillary, Bessie Jones, Emma Ramsey, and Ed Young for an hour of conversation and performance.
