One of the more charismatic virtuosi of the mid-twentieth century, Larry Adler (1914–2001), visited with Studs Terkel in 1976. Adler was known for the revolutionary way he celebrated the harmonica as a serious instrument, performing a cross-pollinated blend of classical and popular music and film scores. Darius Milhaud, Malcolm Arnold, and Vaughan Williams are among the composers who wrote for his unique musical voice.
