The final opera of Richard Wagner, Parsifal, was first premiered at the second ever Bayreuth Festival in 1882. Until the year 1914, the Bayreuth Festival was the only place people were able to hear Wagner’s Parsifal: Wagner forbade any company apart from Bayreuth from presenting the work for years. The dramatic opera made its return to the Beyreuth stage this past summer, starring Andreas Schager as Parsifal, Ekaterina Gubanova as Kundry, Michael Volle as Armfortas, and Tobias Kehrer as Titurel. Director Jay Scheib also utilized elements of Augmented Reality in the staging of this performance.
