The multinational, Chicago-based, early music group, Black Tulip, brings together Josefien Stoppelenburg, soprano (the Netherlands), Mirja Lorenz, recorders (Germany), Phillip W. Serna, violas da gamba (US), and Joel Spears, lutes and theorbo (US). When Black Tulip performed on Live From WFMT in November 2022, their program – “Court, Convent & Stage: Redefining the Early Modern Woman” – featured vocal and instrumental works by Francesca Caccini, Élisabeth Jacquet De-la Guerre, Isabella Leonarda, Barbara Strozzi & others.
