The American singer, songwriter, and activist Joan Baez (1941–) is known for her distinctive, clear and gorgeous voice, and for championing social justice and civil rights. Thirty years into her iconic career, in November 1989, Baez returned to WFMT to share another musical hour with Studs Terkel. She was born on January 9, 1941, in Staten Island, New York, and we wish her the very best on this, her 85th birthday.
